Study programme

Business Informatics (Wirtschaftsinformatik) Bachelor of Science

Building bridges between business requirements and informatics

Digitalisation is becoming an increasing feature of processes in companies and administration. The interdisciplinary Business Informatics  programme combines business fundamentals with programming, software engineering, business software and IT security. You will learn to build bridges between business requirements and informatics and to improve work processes by deploying information technologies. An early professional practice semester and a final two-semester practical project will test your knowledge application in response to real-world demands. As a graduate, jobs are open to you in production companies, service companies or administration. Typical tasks are the conception and implementation of information systems, systems consulting for the optimisation of business processes, and working in sales or the training sector.

Why choose this programme

  • Project work right from the start of your studies

Already on day one of the programme, interdisciplinary teams are formed with the informatics students that will accompany them in the introduction phase of their studies. An introduction to the IT infrastructure and small tasks along the way to developing automation chains prepare the teams for their first larger project assignment.
  • Open spaces for experimental learning

In addition to smaller and larger projects in the context of the courses, extra-curricular working groups made up of students from different semesters, lecturers and technical staff provide an environment for joint experimentation to further develop the IT infrastructure.
  • Cooperation partnerships with regional companies

In particular the one-year projects at the end of the study programme offer a good opportunity to work in a team on a practical task in cooperation with companies or organisations and to gain a small insight into the future work routine.

Development of business applications in interdisciplinary projects

The main task of business informatics graduates is to design, introduce and support business application systems tailored to production companies, service companies or public administration. These include, for example, automated data analysis to support business decisions, production control based on sensor data, business process modelling and automation, development of interfaces to integrate existing information systems, development of document management systems, quality management systems or multimedia systems and the development of a selection process for software tools. These are just a few examples of a diverse range of professional applications.

The best of Business Administration and Informatics

Get to know and combine both subject-specific cultures

The bachelor's programme in Business Informatics follows the principle of combining a sound educationall basis in informatics with the fundamentals of business and application knowledge. Emphasis is placed on an interdisciplinary education that enables students to solve problems at the interface of information technology and business administration issues. The focus is on the planning, development, implementation, economic use and, if necessary, integration of information and communication systems, as well as on social discourse. Business informatics specialists are expected to mediate between the different worlds of informatics and business administration.

At night with a laptop in the museum

The computer science programme took over the German Maritime Museum for a whole night to work on exciting programming projects with beginners and advanced students. From Saturday to Sunday, the laptops were once again opened up in the museum's cog hall. The students, pupils and other interested parties built visualisations of the seabed, ship animations, a 3D TicTacToe and won points for researching security vulnerabilities in a web shop.

Bremerhaven computer science students present project work

Once again this year, the computer science, business informatics and computer science – trustworthy systems degree programmes invite all interested parties to ‘Computer Science Day’ at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. On Thursday, 29 January, from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., student project work will be on display in the university's event room (Building T, Room 002, An der Karlstadt 8). This will be followed by Prof. Dr. Jens Hündling's inaugural lecture. Participation in the event is free of charge and no prior registration is required.

Small Robot Becomes Tourism Expert

How can humanoid robots be used in the tourism sector? Thirteen computer science and business informatics students tested this for the city of Bremerhaven as part of a course project. They recently presented their findings to their clients. “I always enjoy working with the university and the students and seeing the excellent results and their application in the city at the end. Thank you very much for the great work,” says Dr. Ralf Meyer, Head of the Department of Economy, Tourism, and Science in Bremerhaven.
