Graduates of the Digital Media Production programme have strong skills in interface design and extensive knowledge of the aspects of cross-media design. Web design specialists, multimedia professionals and communication designers are among the professionals currently sought after by companies across all sectors. If you decide to specialise in 'Audiovisual Media', there is a variety of options in the field of film, television and Internet TV, ranging from video production to on-air design in the field of motion design and in 3D design. A special area in the production and design landscape is application design, i.e. the design and programming of digital applications that focus especially on usability and user experience. Our graduates have very good qualifications in this area due to their familiarity both with programming and with UX design, prototype development, interface design and animation/visualisation. The study programme also offers an ideal framework for the path to self-employment, which many students already pursue during their studies.

The bachelor's degree programme Digital Media Production has an interdisciplinary profile with an educational emphasis on the dovetailing of disciplines, i.e. the conception, design and development of multimedia systems. In the field of media design, modules such as 'Typeface and Layout', 'Audiovisual Media' and 'Photographic Basics' are offered in the first year of study. In the area of media informatics, the courses 'Media Engineering', 'Multimedia Technology' and 'Programming' provide basic insights into media technology and programming languages. 'Business Administration' and 'Marketing' introduce you to the field of media management. In the following semesters, you can take elective modules from the specialisations 'Audiovisual Media' and 'Cross-media Publishing', including the core media project in the third and fourth semesters. The students work in a laboratory setting following a project-based approach. This work is accompanied by lectures and seminars teaching them, for example, the theoretical foundations of media production and reception.

Programme overview
The standard period of study is seven semesters. This also includes a professional practice semester (a semester abroad is also possible) as well as a media project that extends across two semesters.
The first two semesters cover the foundations of media design, media informatics and media management. In the third semester you have the opportunity to choose a field of specialisation (audiovisual media or cross-media publications).
The Digital Media Production bachelor’s degree programme conveys a profound understanding of media design and development. This is complemented by specific fields of media informatics and the fundamentals of media management and media theory. Our graduates acquire excellent problem-solving skills and are able to independently expand their knowledge in response to their professional requirements.
From the third semester you can choose courses from the specialisations of “Cross-Media Publication (Editorial Design, Corporate Design, Campaign Development etc.) and “Audiovisual Media” (Motion Design, Animation, Scriptwriting etc.). This gives you the opportunity to specialise even further with independently selected projects.
A special feature is the media project that runs over two semesters, during which you work on a complex project as an autonomous team, such as the production of a documentary film or the creation of your own magazine.
The “Social Project Work” module lets you volunteer for a non-profit or public institution, clubs or even other individuals for at least a semester.
The professional practice semester (the fifth semester) lets you expand the knowledge you have acquired during your studies with practical experience. This gives you an insight into professional life, helps you establish contacts with other professionals and develop specific career prospects.
Alternatively, you can choose to study abroad instead of completing the professional practice semester. In this case, you choose media design or media informatics courses, or a free elective offered by the foreign partner university. Study abroad opportunities are made possible by the cooperation between the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and partner universities in Ireland, Spain, Finland and the Netherlands, among other activities.
Admission and application
Admission to the programme requires a general higher education entrance qualification, an entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences or an educational qualification recognised as equivalent. The Registration Office and the Student Advisory Service can provide information on the options for studying without a higher education entrance qualification. The admission requirement for foreign students is an C1 language level in German.
The Digital Media Production (DMP) study programme admits students in the winter semester every year. The application deadline is 15 July. Admission to the bachelor’s degree programme is restricted (NC). Application for this study programme is only possible via the dialogue-oriented service procedure. Application takes place centrally online through the Hochschulstart portal.
If you acquired your university entrance qualification outside the European Union (EU), please also apply through uni-assist. To apply through uni-assist, you need a two-part identification number comprised of the BID (applicant ID) and BAN (applicant authentication number). You receive these numbers after registering in the DoSV applicant portal - www.hochschulstart.de. To ensure adequate processing time, the application for the winter semester should be submitted to UNI-ASSIST by 30 June.
